How yoga n meditation helps in daily life

- Kulwinder

Yoga means unite yourself with that supreme power or energy or god.Yoga brings body, mind, consciousness and soul into balance. In this way yoga helps us in coping with everyday demands.

The mind is constantly swinging from the past to the future and future to past - but never staying in the present. We call this "chanchalmann" or mind is monkey. But if you becomeawareof this tendency of the mind, you can actually save yourself from getting stressed and you can relax the mind. Yoga and pranayama help create that awareness and bring the mind back to the present moment and make it focused.

Yoga can even help improve your relationship with people around you. Yoga and meditation keeps the mind happy and peaceful.

A few minutes of yoga three or four times a week can be a great way to get rid of stress that accumulates daily - in both the body and mind. Yoga postures, pranayama and meditation are effective techniques to release stress.

Regular practise yoga and pranayamas (breathing exercises) increase your lung capacity. This will then have a positive effect on more intense sports that you might be a part of, increasing your stamina and endurance. Furthermore, meditation and calming yoga asanas slow down your heart rate which in turn lowers blood pressure and have also been linked with improving the immune system and lowering cholesterol.

Meditation or dhyaan doesn't mean you just close your eyes and sit. For me every moment is meditation. Whatever you do with awareness is meditation. "Watching your breath" is meditation; sitting near river and just looking at the water is meditation because you are aware of that water nothing else, dancing on your favourite song when you don't care who is around is meditation. It describes a state of consciousness, when the mind is free of scattered thoughts and various patterns. In meditation, the mind is clear, relaxed, and inwardly focused. When you meditate, you are fully awake and alert, but your mind is not focused on the external world or on the events taking place around you.

The process works by releasing tension from your mind, so that you can feel confident about your physical body. Without any forms of anxiety, you are able to establish an internal connection with yourself.

Meditation is good for everybody because it calms down our mind. It makes us more focused. It has lot of medical benefits also. It is good for people with high blood pressure. It reduces anxiety attacks and decreases headaches also.

Have patience and do your practice systematically. At first you may see progress in terms of physical relaxation and emotional calmness. Later you may notice other, more subtle changes.
